THEME - Curing Minds: Consciousness in Sickness and Health
Consciousness plays a huge role in the spectrum of sickness and health, from the beginnings of life and in all aspects of physical, psychological,
and spiritual health to death and beyond. This conference seeks to bring together research and thought on the role of consciousness in areas such as:
- Life – the incipience of life, birth, emergence, rebirth, creation
- Death – end of life issues, the experience of death, death in its various forms, near-death, beyond death
- Health and well-being – cultivating states of health in the physical, psychological, spiritual dimensions
- Sickness and pain – experience, interaction of mental and physical ailments
- Healing and repair – overcoming disease, alleviation of pain, placebo effect, dimensions of healing
- Mind/Body linkages – mind/body unity and duality, mind/body interaction, implications of disjuncture
- Health practices and practitioners – indigenous, traditional, allopathic, alternative, self-help
- Psychoactive substances – traditional and contemporary use of plant drugs in healing, addiction
- Language and healing – relationships between language, consciousness, and healing
- Health care policy – models for policies that promote and integrate different perspectives on health

SAC Meetings
SAC holds its annual meeting in the Spring of each year and also sponsors sessions at the annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association (AAA), which
is held in the Fall of each year. In addition to these two annual events, SAC also organizes and sponsors sessions at various other meetings and conferences.
